Risk…or Not. That is the Question
Life is about risk. We all take them every single day of our lives. When we cross the road, it’s a risk. As we eat our sandwich at lunchtime, there’s a risk.
We can’t function without taking some risks in our lives.
In business, we need to take some risks to grow. Allowing others in out teams to take risks is a brave and challenging task for managers - yet we must do this to enable development and learning.
I’m always reminded, when I think of risk, of this wonderful saying, by someone who knew all about risk:-
“What kind of man would live
Where there is no daring?
I don’t believe in taking
foolish chances,
but nothing
can be accomplished
without taking
any chance at all”
Charles Lindbergh
Today, consider letting someone take a risk or two in your team. Consider the ‘worst that could happen’ and get used to how you would accomodate that. Put a few safety measures in place to feel more comfortable in this ‘letting go’.
Then, expect success - and see them fly!
