Making Progress is What Counts

Life is about progress. We aim to improve; achieve; get better; feel good about ourselves in almost everything we do.

Yet we often make the mistake of believing that the challenges we face are simply too big. Or they are too scary. Or maybe we would be just as well if we didn’t take that risk, because failure would be so difficult for us.

To get past these (minor) excuses, there’s one thing anyone can do to ensure that they are able to have a fulfilling day, whether it be at the workplace, in college or at home.

By taking just small tasks and achieving them, it is possible to show yourself that what you want to do CAN be done. Small steps towards what may be a big goal make the difference. Initially you will see that what was holding you back need not do so at all from now on. Then confidence builds towards bigger actions to take, again enhancing how able you feel to meet and even exceed the bigger task.

And once you have a little momentum, you will be surprised at how much you have moved forward towards that bigger prize that even just a short while ago, you believed was beyond you.

Even by stepping up and doing something, however small towards your desired outcomes, you will make progress and, over the lethargy of prevaricating for all sorts of reasons, that is so much to celebrate.

‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’ Lao-tzu
